Letter 38 - Breakfast in the Sky!

Dear loved ones,

Another great week is in the books. I have so many pictures to share that I think it is best for all of us if I just get started!

Please know that we love you and miss you and are so grateful for the kind notes you send and for your prayers!

With love,

Elder and Sister Brady (mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, John and Shelly, and so on)

PS - happy birthday this week to grandsons August and Freddy!

Story from last Friday, October 3rd. This is Brother and Sister Moses from India. This sweet couple was in Bangkok for their temple sealing last week. Sister Angelina really wanted to get her patriarchal blessing, and through a series of tender mercies, everything came together and she was able to have her hearts desire! To make a long story short, Elder and Sister Brady were in their PJs early on Friday evening after a long day (remember last week the senior missionaries were up early and in charge of zone conference breakfasts?!). At 6:23pm, Sister Brady got a text from Sister Angelina asking if she could get her blessing now! We had received notice earlier in the day that there was a sister wanting a blessing and we hoped to do that on Saturday, but we found out she was leaving at 6am on Saturday. It was Friday night! And we were in our PJs! We moved as quickly as we were able to and by 8:01pm, the blessing was done, typed up, and ready to deliver! This was nothing short of a miracle. Other little miracles happened in India and Hong Kong earlier in the day to make this all come together!
It was a very sweet experience!
Saturday morning the skies opened up and the rains came down and the floods came up! This is looking out of our apartment window to the street below! It is the rainy season!
We braved the rains and took the train to IKEA and walked by this giant hamburger! This was an amazing food court! I think EM means full! So the EMMARKET probably means "eat here to get full!"
We made it to IKEA and enjoyed some meatballs and potatoes! Comfort food!
That is a diet soda in my right hand in case you were wondering!
This beautiful park is right next to IKEA and this was the view from the IKEA foodcourt!
Walking back to the train to get home. Thankfully, the rain has stopped.
This dog was just chilling on the sidewalk. He deserves a place in the blog!
These beautiful flowers growing around this tree also needed a picture taken!
Motorcycles are always on the sidewalks in Thailand. But not in this spot! Poles help keep this sidewalk for pedestrians only! John is up ahead in the blue t-shirt making his way across the intersection!
On our way home we ran into Stake President Deepak and his darling family. John gave him a blessing the week before. It was so nice to run into them before they headed back to India.
Sunday afternoon, we took a Sabbath stroll to Benchakitti Park. I have been wanting to see this beautiful park for sometime. Most weekends we are in Rayong, but we stayed in Bangkok this weekend.
This park is only one metro stop away and has many walking paths.
It also has lots of ponds and beautiful greenery!
The flowers were lovely.
We discovered that they had pickleball courts! And you can play for free!
We plan to come back soon and play with the missionaries on their Pday (preparation day!)!
I love seeing the roots of trees and plants! The roots of this tree climb right up the tree!
A lovely walking and jogging path.
Time to pause for a picture.
You can see the skyrises off in the distance!
I liked this giant tree!
Shrines are everywhere in Thailand.
I love this view of the park pond with the skyscrapers in the background.
More cool roots!
Another beautiful view!
John made a new friend!
Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
John waits for the metro ride home!
Time to watch some General Conference! This is Elder Johnson speaking!
He is on of the general authorities over Asia.
He is the one who extended the call to John to be the English Speaking Patriarch in Thailand.
Watching the Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square. We think this guy looks like young John.
And we think this lady looks a little like Shelly!
Time for our monthly Senior Missionary Zoom meeting. It is so fun to connect with the other Seniors and hear what they are up to in their areas!
Walking home from a doctor's appointment. I love this little view of the Klong.
Senior Sisters gathering at Pepper Lunch!
Senior Sisters Meeker, Belnap, Brady, and Stepp having a wonderful time!
Hello from our Doctor's appointment (a follow up the next day!)!
It wasn't raining when we left to go grab some groceries . . .
We forgot it was the rainy season and we forgot our umbrellas!
Drenched! Zoom in on our eyeglasses!
Looking our our window at the rain!
On our way to the Baiyoke Sky Hotel with the Belnaps!
Look at the views from the 81st floor!
Amazing views!
We enjoyed a delicious "farewell" breakfast buffet with the Belnaps who will be leaving in less than 4 weeks! We will miss our office coworkers!
Another view!
One more view with my giant fingers in the upper left!
Angel John!
Angel Shelly!
This sign should be updated to "used to be Thailand's Tallest Tower."
There is another building in Thailand that has bumped the Baiyoke to 2nd or 3rd place.
But this hotel still has stunning views and it is the home of an annual vertical marathon!
I thought this old phone at the train station was cool!
The Belnaps told us this old dog lives here next to the elevator at the train station.
Crossing the tracks to cross the road to get back to the temple.
You can see the annex and temple near the middle left of this picture.
Another pretty Buddhist shrine on my walk to the post office.
First inspection of the transfer gets an A++! Way to go Sisters Sirisouk, Lundberg, and Sanford!
A ride on the Songthaew to make our way to lunch!
Hello Sister Siri and friends!
Elder and Sister Brady enjoying the ride!
Pepper Lunch! Twice in one week!
Hello!
On our way back to work, we saw some Halloween decorations here in Thailand!!
This was at the cool Terminal 21 mall!
Hello Jack-O'-Lantern!
Hello snail! We spotted this little fellow making his way across our office window today.
I loved these pretty old buildings we saw on our way to a house inspection!
Testing out how powerful the sister's new fan is!
This stellar cleaning job deserves a handshake from Elder Brady!
Great job Sisters Jenkins and Peterson!
Let's grab some lunch to celebrate!

If you made it this far, you should celebrate with some delicious Thai Food! I recommend the fried rice with chicken pictured above!

We love you and miss you! Thank you for reading!

  1. We had fried rice and chicken just the other day! And those people in the choir really do look like you two. How did ever miss that?

  2. Thanks for reading! How are good friends the Standings doing?? I love fried rice and chicken! We could eat it every day here! We spend far to much time watching the choir and seeing who looks like people we know! We have had several people tell us those two look like us! Haha! We miss you two!
